New York Classic Week To maximize the value of bringing your yacht to Manhattan, events and races will be offered over 6 days. You may participate in as many or as few as you wish. Following is the current schedule: Wednesday, October 1, 2008 1000 - Regatta Check-In begins at the “Floating Classroom” at North Cove and continues through Saturday morning. 1200 - Media Day - Members of the media will be invited down to North Cove to hear more about the New York Classic Week. Organizers will also try to arrange sailing opportunities for the media to get them excited and engaged. 1200 - Introduction to the Harbor Race - The harbor has many beautiful landmarks as well as unique local conditions. Weather permitting, this race course will take us near Ellis Island, Governors Island, the Bay Ridge Flats, etc. This is an opportunity to introduce visiting yachts to the harbor so they can begin to study the currents, winds, commercial traffic routes, etc. 1800 - Trophies & Social Event
Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 0930 - Skippers’ Meeting 1200 - Round Governors Island Race - This course in the harbor will be around a few buoys and then around Governors Island. But the trick is you can pass around Governor's Island either way you wish. Starboard boats have right away. You will have to study the current charts and study the wind patterns to decide which way to go. The proper way will be decided at the finish line! 1700 - Judging of the Concours d’Elegance (a Showcase Event).

Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 0930 - Skippers’ Meeting 1200 - Verrazano Narrows Bridge Race - Weather permitting, race to the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and back!
1900 - Trophies & Social Event
Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 0900 - Skippers’ Meeting 1000 Departure Ceremony from North Cove. Local residents and yachting enthusiasts will be invited to line the seawall of North Cove. As each yacht departs, an announcer will broadcast her name and history so the public will have an opportunity to learn more about these beautiful yachts. 1200 - Statue of Liberty Race. Recognized as one of the world’s greatest icons, the Statue of Liberty presides over the harbor and welcomes all to these waters. This race is a homage to Lady Liberty and will include a finish where she can see all of these beautiful yachts. After you finish, please toot a horn and wave to Lady Liberty.
