America's Cup
12 Meter America II
America's Cup
12 Meter "America II" is the Flagship of the New York Harbor Sailing Foundation.
She serves as a symbol of the sailing renaissance in the Harbor.
And she serves as an ambassador, visiting other sailing locations on behalf of
our harbor
and encouraging great sailboats to come visit New York Harbor.
"America II"
was built for the 1987 America's Cup which was held in Freemantle, Australia.
There were three 12 meters named "America II" built for this Cup.
They were US 42, 44 & 46. US 42 now lives in Greenwich, CT. US 44
lives in Hawaii.
US 46 was the boat which actually raced in the Cup series
and this is the boat operated in New York Harbor by our Foundation.
America II is
available for corporate team building events.
She can take up to 6 passengers who sail with the captain and crew.
The minimum suggested donation is $900 and larger support is appreciated.
For more information, please contact
Commodore Michael
Fortenbaugh.
In spring 2011,
cracks were discovered in the mast of America II.
Many people supported America II in her hour of need
and a replacement mast was fitted.
Now for the rest of 2011, America II will take those who supported her for thank
you sails.
